Went for my 10 day post op today which went great.  Lost 25 lbs since i started liquids on 2/5.  He gave me the ok to start on soft foods which i did immediately when i got home.  Made one scrambled egg and could only eat about 3/4 of it before i got that sharp pain in my chest and stopped.   Is that the sign i have put enough in my pouch and to stop?   The egg did taste wonderful though!!!!! Maybe i will try some tomato soup and a few crackers later.     Thanks again for all your help and support.......i don't think i could have done it without all of u! Pam

Hey Jamie...know what you mean about the cold feet!   I was really strong until the week before surgery.  I would get weepy but afraid to show the family as didn't want them worried so this site was so awesome at that time and helped me get through it.    You to shall make it and my prayers will be with you! Take care, Pam

Hi Pam, a scrambled egg was my first soft food too. I have not had any scrambled egg since   the middle of August. From what you are describing to me it sounds like the egg got stuck. The sign I get from my pouch is I feel like I am going to pop if I take another bite. For things getting stuck it is a uncomfortable feeling in the middle of your chest and you start to salvate like crazy. If you drink liquid to pu**** through many times it tends to make what is stuck swell and also it is recommended to wait 30 minutes before drinking liquid. This is from my own experince.                                                Annie

Thanks Annie...that could very well be.  I stopped at that point and was fine and did not drink cuz of the 30 min rule.   My next new food will be some soup as it is safer..lmao. Thanks, Pam

Hi Pam, You too will become a beutiful soup queen. Ahhh soup is good for us and it always fills me up the most. Homemade soups are the best as far as adding lots of protien rich foods to your own soups. As for how many meals you can get out of a pot of homemade soup SEVERAL. I am always buying the Glad plastic containers all sizes. I freeze alot of soup.                                            Annie

Hi Pam,

Boy, do I know what you mean about simple things tasting soooo gooood. The sharp pain that you felt was the egg 'getting stuck'. While you may have over filled the pouch, the eggs, as soft as they are can also be rather dense. That density can cause some real discomfort. Remember that your baby pouch is just a few days out from major surgery. Because of that, it is still very swollen; so eventually you will be able to eat a whole egg without incident, it will take a while until the swelling goes down and a whole egg fits. When you are eating, gooooo verrrrryyyyyyy slowly, chewing at least 30 times with each teeny, tiny bite. It will seem like overkill and as though you couldn't possibly chew a teeny, tiny bite of scrambled egg or cottage cheese so much, but it will really help. As you are doing this be sure to put your fork down between bites and really feel if you think you still have room for another bite of if you are full. Full shouldn't feel like pressure, just satiated, not empty. You will find that your sense of fullness or how you gauge it will change. It's this new sense of fullness that is going to guide you through not only your weightloss, but keeping it off. You will find that if you indulge just one bite too much, your pouch may have a stern discussion with you ... i.e., pain in the chest ... This definitely has a learning curve, but you'll get it soon. You just need to "REALLY LISTEN" to you pouch when it's talking to you so that it doesn't grab you up and shake you. I have to admit to have been shaken silly more than a few times. Also realize that something that doesn't agree with you this week, very well may next week or a few weeks down the road. So be gentle with yourself.

Congratulations on making the transition to soft foods.

Barb

Thanks for all the info Barb...i really appreciate it.   Like the doc said today, we all transition at different rates and you just have to be in touch with yourself and know when you can move on to other foods.    I think tomorrow i will start a daily log with the food i have eaten along with the protein and calories so i will be aware of what i'm doing and if low on protein, i can do a bullet.   That is one good thing i learned from W****chers and that is logging every bite into your mouth.   I am shocked at the fact I am never  hungry and eat because i start to become light headed and know my body is telling me it needs more fuel.   I don't drink 30 min before or after and that is really foreign to me so something else to learn.     Thanks again for all of your help and support...you will never know what a difference it makes! Thanks, pam
